How Do I Buy a Hearthside Puppy?
Hello. We want you to feel very comfortable about getting a puppy from us. We definitely want our puppies to go to excellent homes, and quite honestly, we are totally happy with where our babies get to go. We love hearing back from so many good people, all across our country - some in Canada and even the Dominican Republic. We get calls and emails from Europe, UK, AUS, Africa too, but no puppies have gone to those places "yet". :o)
We have a puppy application, for you to fill out. Thank you for taking the time to do so - and for telling us about yourself or selves. :o) This is important for us, a step we take to make sure our puppies are going to good homes, that are sincere in their desire to love and care for a Hearthside puppy.
Anyway, if you decide you want one of our puppies - you can give me a call, 417-926-6306 or 417-259-4136, or send an email. [email protected] Jeff is available too, but he leaves this stuff to me, since I'll know for sure, who is available and who is not. :o)
Then, you put a deposit down. We do have to have a deposit to hold a puppy. Our deposits are 300.00. You can use a credit card or a debit card. You can give me the number over the phone, or I can send an invoice to your email. OR, if you prefer, you can do a bank transfer to our bank, you can get a cashier's check and send by overnight mail too. A personal check will be fine, as long as there is plenty of time for it to clear - and it needs to be sent by overnight mail.
As soon as deposit has been rec'd., that exact baby is now your baby! We will keep sending you pictures and updates about how he/ she is doing, and what he/ she is doing. We take all of our babies to Dr. Hubner at 8 weeks old - for a very thorough vet check. We do this whether they are going to be picked up by you, or they are going to fly to their new homes. It is important to us, to have each puppy checked to be sure they are as healthy as we think they are. Each puppy will have a 2 year health guarantee - which will change to 3 years, if you choose to keep your new baby on NuVet Vitamins right from the start. We put the powdered formula on their food, from the very beginning - as soon as they start eating solid food, they are also getting NuVet Vitamins - which is stirred into their Nutri-Source puppy food - for the right size of puppy that they are.
FAQ's
1. What happens during shipping?
I look for the best flight there is available going to the airport of your choice. We like short trips. American Airlines is usually the best pick, but not always. I get the flight booked, and give you all the information you will need. You will need to take your photo ID, and I will also give you the Air Waybill # to give to the Airline Officials - 2 ways they use to verify that you are indeed the right person to pick up puppy. Puppy is going to ride in a very sturdy, airline approved hard plastic crate, lots of air vents for plenty of fresh air. We put in about 3-4 inches of shredded newspaper. Oh, here is a link to another one of our pages - showing pictures. Please click and scroll down. Transportation fees on American or Delta start at 325.00 and go up depending on the size of your puppy. All of our poodles and Malitpoos will be able to fly at that rate - unless you are getting a retired adult?, or a larger puppy for some reason. :o) United Airlines is more - and we have to get that rate with each individual puppy - depending on weight and location. http://www.hearthsidecountry.com/puppy-pkg.html
2. Does puppy ride with the passengers? This depends on air or ground. Ground transport is our preferred method, or meeting you in person. When going by ground, puppies are in their own sanitary crate - not with other dogs. They are very well taken care of - and will be delivered to your front door.
If using air transport, puppy rides in the cargo area - his or her crate is snugged in, and held firm - no sliding around with the luggage. Puppy will most likely sleep. We send a Snuggle Puppy to you, by mail. We are no longer able to send the Snuggle Puppy in the crate - airline rules. So, we send it by mail - and we rub it on their siblings - parents - it will have a scent that your puppy will recognize. Please give this to your new puppy - even if they are doing just fine - they love toys, and it is just a nice comforting thing for them. :o) Anyway, the Snuggle Puppy is great - like a friend. Anyone is welcome to fly here and take baby home themselves, we can meet you at SGF airport free of charge. Or, we can meet you with your puppy. WE NO LONGER ARE ABLE TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO COME HERE - TOO RISKY FOR THE HEALTH OF OUR PUPPIES.
3. What comes with our new baby?
Please click HERE, and you will see / read about it all. :o)
4. Do you do health testing on your adult dogs?
Yes, we have had many of our adults dogs tested. I do need to post results. Please ask about that when you call or email. Thank you. :o)
5. Can you babysit puppy for us, while we finish our vacation? or something else.
No Hearthside puppy will ever be "homeless". Yes, we can keep baby for you. We will do the first week for free, once they turn 9 weeks old, we charge a boarding fee of $10.00 a day. This will include any necessary vaccinations they may need, of course their food, and socialization time. There is not always time for us to do any extra training - so it is good for you to get your baby as soon as possible, to take advantage of their youth, and to teach them well. It is really not convenient for us to keep puppies here after they are ready for their new homes. Their siblings have gone on, and there may not be others for them to have as playmates. They need to be bonding with their new families.
The boarding fees do not apply to little puppies, that are not yet 2 pounds, at 8 weeks old. No puppy will leave here, until it is 2 pounds or 12 weeks - whichever comes first.
Thank you for your understanding.
6. Can we come and pick out the puppy we want?
This is a biggie. Up until now (3/8/17) - we have always allowed this. It has come to our attention, this is not in the best interests of our puppies - and they are our only concern. So, no, we don't allow you to come here and play with puppies any more. Bio Secure Area.
7. What kind of food do we feed / recommend?
Here at Hearthside, we have chosen to use Nutri-Source Super Premium Pet Foods. www.nutrisourcepetfoods.com. This is manufactured by Tuffy's Pet Foods Inc., right here in the USA. It is made with Real Chicken as the #1 ingredient. Also included is highly digestible rice, barley and oatmeal, along with a balanced omega 3 and 6 nutrition. You can read more about it on their website - and find where to get it. We use the Small to Medium Breed Formula for our Poodles, Maltipoos and the toy and miniature size Aussiedoodles. The Standard Aussiedoodles receive the Large Breed Puppy Formula. :O) We use this same brand for all of our adult dogs - only in the Adult Formula - according to their size. We include two sample size packages with each puppy.
8. What grooming tools do you recommend?
I get asked this quite often, SO, ta-dah - I did a quickie video. :o)

9. Another grooming question - what kind of shampoo?
Because this is what we do - every day - I buy our shampoo in huge amounts - 5 gal size - concentrated :o) And, the same with our conditioner. What we get may not be available to you- unless you want to shop at www.Petedge.com or another online supplier. I like a nice mild puppy shampoo - with oatmeal or skin conditioners. We also use puppy or dog conditioner when we bathe. The main thing is to be very thorough about rinsing. You do not want to leave any shampoo or conditioner residue on puppy. That will dry their skin and hair out - which goes along with the question - how often to bathe? Some say not to bathe more than once every 5 to 6 weeks. Here is what I say, if puppy is dirty - give him or her a bath - BUT - do a super good job of rinsing. The Aussie leave-in conditioner is good for rubbing into their coats after bath and between baths - for a nice fresh smell and coat conditioner.
